Delete your Heritage Hub account
Deleting from inside the app
The fastest way to delete your account is in the Heritage Hub app:
- Open Heritage Hub and go to Settings.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete account.
- Type DELETE to confirm.
Your account is then scheduled for permanent deletion. You have a 30-day grace period to change your mind — the Account screen shows the scheduled date and a Cancel deletion button until then. After the grace period, deletion is completed automatically and cannot be undone.
Requesting deletion from this page
If you cannot sign in, or you no longer have the app installed, you can request deletion here.
Send an email to delete@heritagehub.app from the email address on your Heritage Hub account, with the word Delete in the subject line. If you signed up with only a phone number, include that number in your message.
We will verify that the request comes from the account holder, confirm by return email, and complete the deletion within 30 days. We will not ask you to reinstall the app.
What gets deleted, and what stays with your family
Heritage Hub keeps a family's history across generations, so closing your account ends your account, not your place in that history.
| Deleted | Stays, and why |
|---|---|
| Your sign-in credentials | Your place in the family tree, with your name, profile photo and dates, as part of your family's shared history. Only a family admin can remove it |
| Your settings | Photos, videos, stories and comments you shared with your family or other members, credited to you, because your family relies on them as a shared record |
| Your access to your messages | Messages you sent, which stay with the people you sent them to |
| Your diagnostic and usage records | Records we are required to keep by law, such as tax or transaction records, for the period the law requires |
| Your membership of your families (your place in the tree stays) | Your username, email address and mobile number, reserved for you (see "Coming back later" for recycled phone numbers) |
| Anonymised, aggregated statistics that cannot identify you |
To have a specific shared item removed, ask your family admin, or write to privacy@heritagehub.app.
Coming back later
Your username, email address and mobile number stay reserved for you, so you can reopen your account at any time. One exception: phone companies reuse disconnected numbers, so if someone proves they now have your old number they can ask for it. We tell you first (by email, if your account had one) and you have 14 days to say it is still yours; if your number is your only way back, our support team decides. On the sign-in page tap Forgot password? and use your phone number, or ask for a link with your username or email address. If your account had an email address, the link goes there; if it had only a phone number, an admin of your family confirms it is you. Your place in the family tree and everything you shared become yours again, and you rejoin your families as a member. Old private messages cannot be recovered.
Deletion completes at the end of the 30-day grace period, and across our encrypted backups within 35 days after that, after which the data cannot be recovered.
Before you delete: keep a copy of your family history
Deletion cannot be undone once the grace period ends. If your family history matters to you, ask us for a copy first: write to privacy@heritagehub.app and we will send you an export of your tree and the media you uploaded before we process the deletion.
If you just need a break
You can pause your account instead: Settings → Account → Pause my account. You get no notifications, nothing is deleted, and you come back by signing in and tapping Resume.
If you only want to leave one family
You do not have to delete your whole account to leave a single family space. Write to support@heritagehub.app and we will remove you from that family while leaving the rest of your account untouched.
